The Umoja Mentoring Program

The Umoja Mentoring Program was created by BAAFSSO to provide support for new freshman and new transfer students of African descent at New Jersey City University.  In September 2002, another component was created to provide mentoring and support for students at the University Charter High School.  Students are provided a professional mentor, workshops with on/off campus educational and cultural activities.

Mentors who volunteer for the program have contact with their assigned mentees 2 to 4 times a month, attend an orientation and are committed to attending some of the activities for the academic year.
