Jennie David of Jersey City, a senior majoring in English and secondary education certification at New Jersey City University, has been granted a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to South Korea for 2012-13.
As a Fulbright Teaching Assistant, Ms. David will teach English and will also research cyber bullying in South Korea for a little over one year, beginning on July 5, 2012.
Established by the United States Congress in 1946, the Fulbright Program is the largest international exchange program in the country, offering opportunities for students, teachers, scholars, and professionals to study, teach, lecture, and conduct research in more than 155 countries worldwide.
Sponsored by the United States Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the prestigious and highly-competitive program has provided almost 300,000 participants, selected on the basis of academic merit and leadership potential, with these exchange opportunities.
In the words of Senator J. William Fulbright, chief sponsor of the program in Congress, "Fostering leadership, learning and empathy between cultures was and remains the purpose of the international scholarship program."
Dr. Irma Maini, an NJCU professor of English, is the Fulbright Program advisor at NJCU.
