Paper Dolls (Tomer Heymann, 2006, 80 minutes)
Film Screening and Discussion facilitated by C. Raissiguier
Paper Dolls is a documentary film by award winning filmmaker Tomer Heymann about a group of transvestite Filipinos who migrate to Israel and, there, take care of elderly religious Jewish men. On their night off, the care workers perform as a drag queen ensemble, “Paper Dolls,” in Tel Aviv nightclubs. This documentary explores the complex roles of migrant workers, and delves into the lives of social outcasts seeking freedom and acceptance.
