The First-Year Experience Program offers first-year students the opportunity to participate in academic learning communities with other students who share a common theme, inquiry, or set of concerns. It is part of what sets the freshman year experience apart at NJCU.
The instructors work closely to develop a unified curriculum and support system for students, creating assignments that speak to and build on one another and that align assessment standards and tools. Course work emphasizes:
- Reading and writing as integrated skills
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Collaborative work skills and strategies
- Basic library research skills
- Oral communications skills
For additional information about the NJCU freshman year experience, please contact Hilary Englert, program coordinator, at 201.200.3099 or at henglert@njcu.edu.
