  • The performing arts take center stage at NJCU, where talent and innovation in film, theater, music, and dance are encouraged and showcased.  Be sure to check out our Calendar of Events to see a schedule of upcoming events that will inspire and entertain you.

The NJCU Music, Dance and Theatre Department brings student talent to the stage, with performances by NJCU’s jazz ensembles, soloists, chamber music and other instrumental ensembles, choral and opera ensembles, and musical theatre troupes.  In addition, NJCU regularly hosts world-class performers and ensembles for master classes, recitals, and concerts.

The Actors Shakespeare Company (ASC), an artistic presence on campus since 2005, became NJCU’s official theatrical company-in-residence in 2008.  The ASC presents Shakespeare’s plays, other classics and classically inspired works, staged readings, and experimental productions of Shakespeare’s texts.

The Black Maria Film & Video Festival, an international juried competition and traveling exhibition, is New Jersey’s only Academy Award qualifying festival for documentary shorts.  The Festival also operates the New Jersey Young Film and Videomaker’s Festival and the Environmental Insights Collection.

Urban Image, a collective of media artists based at NJCU, showcases film and video work by NJCU students, faculty, alumni, and staff.

NJCU takes pride of its performing arts commitment and invites you to participate in our creative community as a student or community member.
