We are committed to helping student writers develop their long-term writing proficiency. We use tutoring methods and strategies designed to engage writers to think critically about their writing processes in order to see how they can improve those processes and better navigate not only their current writing tasks but also those in future courses or in jobs beyond college.
In short, we want to help writers help themselves. To this end, our sessions are not directive encounters that situate the tutor as the giver of information to a student writer who passively receives that information. Rather, tutoring sessions are meant to be collaborative exchanges in which tutor and student writer function as active participants who discuss what is working or not working in the student writer’s writing and how the student writer may develop or hone stronger, more effective writing skills.
