- Floppy disks don't last forever.
Buy new ones at the beginning of the semester.
- Always create a backup copy
of your floppy disks. Use it whenever you change a number of files on your
working disk in case it develops a problem.
- Disks will become damaged
by heat & magnetic fields and physical abuse.
- Format your disks properly.
Use 3.5", 1.44 MB HD (high density) disks. A Windows computer can only
read PC disk format. A Macintosh computers can read both PC and Mac formats.
- Watch out for virus attacks.
If you suspect your disk is infected do not ignore it. Ask a student assistant
for help.
- Don't fill your disks to
capacity. Leave at least 100K of storage available.
