For the past 5 years, selected
students have been participating in the Actors Shakespeare program.
Currently the program is led by Terry McSweeny, an actor from NJCU
Actors Shakespeare Group. In addition Professor Christopher Shamburg
from NJCU has been volunteering time each week, teaching our students
ways to incorporate technology into the program.
Each year the students focus on
learning about one specific play written by William Shakespeare.
Students in the program meet each week for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
During the course of the year the students learn the story of the play
they are performing and about the characters. At the end of the year
the students put on a modified version of one of Shakespeare’s plays.
This year the students will perform a Winters Tale.
This program gives the students an
opportunity to learn the steps involved in putting on a play from start
to finish. It facilitates reading, comprehension, speech pronunciation,
vocabulary development, breathing control and volume control. In
addition it works on building their self confidence. The students,
faculty, and staff look forward to this year’s performance and the
continued success of the program.
