The Gothic Times Garners Four Awards in New Jersey Press Association College Contest
New Jersey City University's student newspaper, The Gothic Times, has received four awards in the four-year college category of the New Jersey Press Association's "2002 Better College Newspaper Contest."
The New Jersey City University entries were among 250 submitted last January by 16 New Jersey colleges and universities. The submissions were judged last February by 15 editors, writers, and photographers from newspapers that are NJPA members. The NJPA Editorial Committee announced the winners in early March.
The NJCU winners are:
Michael Calia of Keansburg, news editor of The Gothic Times; Martin Gumb of Cliffside Park, assistant editor and sports editor of The Gothic Times; and Darren Miller of Jersey City, editor-in-chief and editorial/opinion editor of The Gothic Times, second place, and Eddie Hollowell of Bayonne, assistant news editor of The Gothic Times, honorable mention, in the news writing category Christopher Zinsli of Jersey City, entertainment editor (movies) of The Gothic Times, honorable mention in the arts and entertainment/critical writing category Misters Calia, Gumb, and Miller, second place in enterprise/investigative reporting.
The winners will be honored at the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association's spring conference in April. The judges' comments on each entry will be distributed to the winners at the conference.
