  • Our Graduate program is designed to accommodate both full-time and part-time/working students. Most classes are offered in the evenings and some meet at individually scheduled times. Each MA student receives access to all the main studios, classrooms, and workshops.

    The MA Program

The Art Department offers a 39-credit Master of Fine Arts (MA) degree program. The MA degree is recommended for those professionals in the field who wish to upgrade their skills and knowledge for advancement or who wish to engage a new direction in the studio arts. The MA program is designed to offer our students a thesis track in studio art specialized courses. The MA Academic Planning sheet outlines the course groupings and electives. Course descriptions may be found in the NJCU Graduate catalogue (http://www.njcu.edu/graduate/pdf/catalog.pdf).

    The MFA Program

The Art Department offers a 60-credit Master of Fine Art (MFA) degree program. The MFA is the terminal degree required for those who wish to pursue a college or university teaching position and is the predominant degree track for those pursuing professional studies in Art and Design. The MFA is designed to offer our students a thesis track in studio art courses in either a single discipline, such as Painting, Graphic Design, Sculpture, Printmaking, etc, or the flexibility to conduct their projects in multiple disciplines. The core of the program is structured around self-initiated/faculty directed studio work, group critique, and Art theory courses. Course descriptions may be found in the NJCU Graduate catalogue (http://www.njcu.edu/graduate/pdf/catalog.pdf).
