In this lecture, Dr. Giulia Ghia will focus on the paintings of the Italian artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, known as Caravaggio. She will discuss the numerous restorations these works have undergone since the time when they were created. The aim of the lecture will be to show how the state of conservation has an effect on how the work is understood within the canon of Art History.
Dr. Giulia Ghia graduated in the History of Art at La Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, and is also a graduate of the Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro in Rome, Italy. She is the Coordinator of the Master in Management and Digitalization of Cultural Heritage at John Cabot University of Rome, where she also teaches Art History and Art Conservation: The Principles of Restoration and Art History.
