Policy Overview
- The Center for Teacher Preparation and Partnerships will exclusively use the student’s primary email address and phone number to communicate. Please advise the CTPP of any change of your primary email address and primary telephone number.
- Prior to the practicum, students must pass the writing assessment. Information on the test is located on the College of Education website.
- Prior to the internship, elementary, secondary including art and music education as well as early childhood students must pass the appropriate Praxis II test. The passing score including sub-scores must be submitted to the CTPP.
- Practicum and internship students must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 at the time of registration into a field placement.
- The majority of placement requests will be made within the College of Education’s partnership districts; Jersey City, Union City, West New York, Bayonne, North Arlington, Harrison, Kearny, Newark, E. Newark, Secaucus, Long Branch and Asbury Park. Internship students will not be placed in districts where they reside, where they attended school, or where their children or siblings are enrolled.
- The College of Education policy does not allow for changes in secured school placements for both practicum and internship. A secured placement is defined as one where the school has already accepted the student.
- Interns should not carry more than a total of 15 credits during internship semester. This credit load includes both the internship and concurrent seminars. Exceptions must be approved by the department chairperson.
- It is expected that practicum and internship students attend the appropriate orientation the week prior to the start of the semester.
- Practicum and internship students should refer to the Practicum and Internship Handbook located on the CTPP website for detailed information.
- Each student will be given two opportunities to complete Practicum and/or Internship.
