New Jersey City University is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification.
The University is also an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and the National Association of Schools of Music.
The nursing program is accredited by the National League of Nursing. Education programs are approved by the New Jersey State Department of Education. The business program is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
The University is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the American Council of Education, The New Jersey Association of Colleges and Universities, and The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
