Dennis Raverty
Dennis Raverty received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University and his B.A. from
University of Minnesota. He specializes in modern and contemporary art
history, theory and criticism, with a special interest in post-colonial
discourses and the politics of identity. His first book Struggle Over the
Modern: Purity and Experience in American Art Criticism, was published by
Fairleigh Dickinson Press in 2005. He has published scholarly articles in The
International Review of African American Art, Art Journal, Art Criticism, The
New Art Examiner, Art Papers, Prospects: An Annual of American Studies, and
Source: Notes in the History of Art. His art criticism has appeared in Art in
America, The New Art Examiner, and Art Papers, where he was a contributing
editor. An award-winning teacher, Raverty lives in New York City, and is currently working on a monograph on contemporary Iranian American artist Siah
Armajani. |
