Course  Description

This seminar may involve the student in experimentation and research in mathematics.  Emphasis is placed on skills and techniques appropriate for mathematics education.  Each student may formulate and complete a classroom experiment involving presentation of new material, analysis of student difficulties, or some other similar activity.  A specialization and research course required for mathematics majors.

 

Goals of the Course

 

1.       To aid students in choosing a suitable topic for required paper.

2.       To study appropriate statistical models

3.       To provide students experience in evaluation of projects in seminar discussions.

 

Course Content

 

1.       Definition and development of the Problem, including the survey of the related literature and formulation of the working hypothesis.

2.       Selection of Data-gathering Techniques and actual collection of data.

3.       Classification and Analysis of Data

4.       Conclusions, Generalizations and Applications

 

Evaluation Measures

 

1. Participation in class work

2. Preparation of special reports and assignments

3. Written Examination
