  • Congratulations to our graduating majors!

  • On Thursday, May 1, from 6 to 8:30 pm, Pre-Law Advisor Prof. Donna Axel arranged to have Sonji Patrick from PRLDEF and Lynda Cevallos from CLEO to come and speak about preparing for law school and the law school admissions process. The event was held in P-203 (Professional Studies Building; space is limited so arrive on time).

  • On Saturday, 26 April our colleagues in the Philosophy Department are presenting a full day symposium on Greek Philosophy in Room 129 of the newly refurbished Student Union Building. Professor Fran Moran from our department will be presenting a paper entitled "Thucydides Today:  From the Peloponnesus to Iraq" at 2:30. The full program is available here as a .pdf file.

  • On Thursday, 24 April, our colleagues in the Mathematics Department celebrating Math Awareness Month with a program entitled "What Makes Your Vote Matter? Let Mathematics and Statistics Show You," a series of short talks over to the mathematics of voting (click the link for a pdf file of the program). The event is being held in the Grossnickle Auditorium (G-144), from 9 a.m until 12:30 pm, and Professor Fran Moran from our department will be presenting a talk at 9:05 am entitled "Jumping on the Bandwagon: The Geometry of the 2008 Primary Season."

  • On Thursday, 3 April, at 7:00 in the Gothic Lounge (Hepburn 202) the Political Science Department and the Political Science Alliance sponsored a forum on Hudson County politics. Featured speakers included: Hoboken councilman Peter Camarrano, Bayonne councilman and NJCU alumnus Anthony Chiappone, and Jersey Journal reporter Earl Morgan. The event was moderated by Professor Thurman Hart.

  • On March 29, political science majors April Kuzas and Alex Nielson presented the preliminary results of their independent study project at the 69th Annual Meeting of the Pennnsylvania Political Science Association at the State Capitol, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

  • March was Women's History Month. Here's the program. For further information contact Dr. Catherine Raissiguier of the Women's and Gender Studies Program at ext. 3551 or Karen DeAngelis of the Speicher-Rubin Women's Center at ext. 3189.

  • The New Jersey Political Science Association is holding its annual conference on Friday, 29 February from 9 to 3:30 pm at the Eagleton Institute of Rutgers University, New Bruckwick New Jersey. There is no registration fee for the conference, and lunch is included. This year's panels are: T"he Presidential Election:  The New Jersey Perspective," "Women in New Jersey Politics," and Teaching State & Local Politics in New Jersey."   • February is Black History Month, and our colleagues at the Lee Hagan Africana Studies Center have organized an exciting series of events and films throughout the month that should be of interest to our majors, minors, and friends. Their next event is on 14 February, from 12:00-2:00 pm in H202. It's a panel discussion presented by Dr. Dennis Raverty (NJCU Art Department) with Jamal Hinnant (Black Freeedom Society) and Amani Jennings entitled: "Images of Blackness: Media/Art and Hip-Hop as Resistance."

  • On Super Tuesday, February 5, the Department co-hosted a successful Primary Election Returns Night with Office of Campus Life and the Student Government Organization. Thanks to all the friends and colleagues who attended.

  • On Monday, 28 January, the Political Science Alliance, Psi Sigma Phi fraternity, and the Department hosted an informational Question and Answer/Roundtable Discussion on the Super Tuesday presidential primaries.

  • The Political Science Alliance and our Student Government Organization sponsored a talk with Democratic Presidential candidate and Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich on Monday, November 19.

  • Our colleagues in the Philosophy and Religion Department presented their annual "Adventures in Philosophy" series of lectures on November 13, 14, and 17

  • Our semi-annual PRE-LAW Event was held on Thursday, 18 October from 1 to 3:30 and from 7:15 to 9:30. The afternoon session, "Money, LSATs, and Admissions," featured Karen DeAngelis (The Women's Center), Eva Lana (LSAT Prep), and Pershia Wilkins (Albany Law School) in S-116 and S-118. The evening session, "The Private Sector: Pathways to Success," was a panel discussion featuring Dara Govan (Riker Danzig Scherer Hyland & Perretti LLP) and John T. Herbert (Pfizer Inc., Legal Department) (H-202).
