I received my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the Indiana University at Bloomington and my M.S. in Zoology with Molecular Biology specialization from University of Pune, India. Prior to joining NJCU, I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo. My research interest focuses on teacher education and more specifically on Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) development of science teachers. Within PCK framework, I am focused on understanding the nature of science teachers’ orientations towards teaching science and in relation to the specific components of PCK. I am interested in understanding role of contextual factors in shaping teachers' orientations and how teacher training programs can be designed to shift these orientations. My current research focuses on developing methods to support pre-service teachers' PCK development to teach science to ESL/ELL students.
I am originally from India and my research interest roots through my educational experiences as a student and as a teacher. Through my research I hope to develop better understanding of nature of PCK for science teaching.
