Dr.
Allan Futernick, associate director of Graduate Studies, is the recipient
of the Employee of the Month Award for March 2007.
Dr. Futernick joined the staff of New Jersey City University in November 2001. In the five years that followed, he has played a key role in a number of critical projects.
Dr. Futernick helped develop and initiate the GothicNet online enrollment procedures which are in place today. He also helped to establish many of the administrative procedures for admitting, enrolling and accounting for the first New Pathways to Teaching in New Jersey (NPTNJ) cohorts, 2003-2005. In addition, Dr. Futernick was the principal editor of the 2005-2008 Graduate Catalog.
He continues to work closely with faculty and staff to improve graduate admissions, enrollment, and matriculation administrative processes.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, and Dr. Futernick received a B.A. from the City College of New York, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Alabama.
He served on active duty as a career officer in the Regular Army for more than 23 years before retiring in 1987. From 1987-2000, Dr. Futernick was employed at Rutgers University, first on the president’s staff in Academic Affairs, and then as associate dean of the School of Criminal Justice.
Dr. Futernick has taught at the University of Alabama, the University of Texas-El Paso, Rutgers University, Middlesex County College, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
He is a past-president of the New Jersey Association of Criminal Justice Educators, and is the author of a number of book chapters and articles dealing with topics in military sociology. He is also a founding member and a past-president of the West Point-Highland Falls, New York, Rotary Club.
Dr. Futernick’s leisure interests include folk music, developing word games, and being a proud grandparent along with his wife, Sandy.
