Dr. Shirley I. Williams, professor of criminal justice and chair of the Department of Criminal Justice/Security, is the recipient of the Employee of the Month Award for September 2007.
She joined the faculty of then-Jersey City State College in January 1983 as an assistant professor of criminal justice. In September 1994, Dr. Williams became an associate professor, and five years later was promoted to the rank of professor.
Dr. Williams says that she “approaches her teaching enthusiastically with a special interest in each student” and feels that her individual contact with her students is the highlight of her day.
Dr. Williams will celebrate her 25th anniversary as a member of the NJCU faculty on January 18, 2008. She is presently serving her third term as chair of the Department.
She has an “open-door policy” and enjoys staying in touch with former students. Dr. Williams “leaves time for her colleagues and her contribution to the University and the criminal justice community.”
Dr. Williams resides in the Bronx, New York.
