Robert
J. McBride, associate vice president for campus information systems,
is the recipient of the Employee Recognition Award for October
2006.
Mr. McBride’s career at the University began in 1972 with his appointment as assistant director of financial aid. He served as director of financial aid from 1976 to 1996, and then as associate vice president for enrollment management until 2001, when he was named to his present position in the Division of Administration and Finance.
Since 1998, he has been the project manager for the implementation and upgrade of the PeopleSoft Enterprise Systems at the University, an initiative that includes the areas of student administration, contributor relations, human resources, and financials and supply chain management, as well as the development of the GothicNet portal web site. With these successes, the University continues to expand the services offered to its community, enabling many online, self-service features such as registration, tuition and fee payment, degree progress reports, grading and grade reporting, access to payroll and benefit information, and eProcurement.
Mr. McBride’s service to the University has been extensive. He has served as a member of the University Senate and its Executive Board, an officer and president of NJCU’s AFT local, a member of several Middle States Committees, and a member of the team commissioned by President Hernández to evaluate the appropriateness of seeking University status.
A member of the Strategic Enrollment Management Committee since its inception, and chair during his tenure as Associate Vice President in Student Affairs, Mr. McBride is currently serving on the University Strategic Planning Council.
For several years, he has coordinated the marshals at commencement and convocation.
While director of financial aid, Mr. McBride represented the University and the other public sector colleges on several statewide advisory groups. Recently, he has presented on enterprise system implementations at the PeopleSoft Higher Education User Group Conferences, and at EDUCAUSE. He has also served the University as an adjunct instructor in mathematics.
A native of Jersey City, Mr. McBride attended St. Aloysius Grammar School and Marist High School. He received a baccalaureate degree in physics from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York, and a master’s degree in physics from Brown University
Mr. McBride resides in Bethlehem Township in Hunterdon County with his wife Karen, an art teacher at the Immaculate Conception School in Clinton, and his two daughters, Emma and Alanna, seventh and sixth grade students at the Ethel Hoppock Middle School. When not commuting or helping his children with their homework, or studying up on the next PeopleSoft upgrade, Mr. McBride enjoys traveling, reading, art, music, and writing.
