Vision Statement

  • The Department of History stresses, above all, students and their academic success. Faculty members are deeply committed to creating a student-oriented culture that makes their needs the highest priority. They demonstrate this commitment through personalized one-on-one academic advising sessions, flexible course scheduling, and top-notch instruction.
Additionally, faculty members are committed to the university's multicultural, urban mission. They consistently offer a variety of broad general studies courses in American as well as world history. And by recognizing the diverse and non-traditional nature of the student population, they devote themselves to a variety of content-delivery and assessment techniques.
Finally, whether teaching majors or non-majors, faculty members strive to develop a life-long love of history while simultaneously providing students with a set of disciplinary as well as cross-disciplinary skills that will serve them well as both citizens and professionals.
