     Employees (Faculty and Staff) H&WC Services

    * POLICY CHANGE * (effective 1/2/09)

    * Effective January 2, 2009, the Health & Wellness Center (H&WC) provides health services exclusively to NJCU students.

    The Health & Wellness Center no longer provides routine health services, supplies, or medication to NJCU employees. Providing treatment exclusively for students is the standard of care in Health and Wellness Centers at other New Jersey State Colleges and Universities. Non-students seeking care at the H&WC will be directed to contact their own health care provider for advice and assistance. Employees are encouraged to carry their own personal supply of over-the-counter medications (i.e. Tylenol, Aspirin, etc.).

    The only exception to this policy is the initial assessment of on-the-job injuries.

    In the event of a health related emergency presenting to the H&WC, the staff will provide assistance to the employee awaiting the arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Public Safety will be alerted and the local 911 Jersey City EMS response will be activated by the Health and Wellness Center. Supervisors are not to send employees to the H&WC for confirmation of illness or assessment for fitness for duty.

    The NJCU Public Safety Department (PSD) will continue to respond to all requests for medical emergency assistance occurring outside of the H&WC. Please remember to call X-3128 to report all medical emergencies to the Public Safety Department.

    Policy for employees who also hold part or full-time student status:  If the NJCU employee is a full-time employee and is covered by NJCU Health benefits, they will not receive care at the H&WC with the exception of workman's compensation issues or life-threatening medical emergencies.

    Questions related to this policy change should be directed to the Human Resources Department at X-2335.

    The H&WC also reserves the right to restrict services and/or programs (such as HIV testing or other services) to students only.

    Health Benefits Health benefits for NJCU employees are managed by the NJCU Human Resources Department in Hepburn Hall, Rm 105 (201) 200-2335.
