MSCHE Exchange Series: Session 1

MSCHE Exchange Series: Session 1

STANDARD 1: Mission and goals

The institution’s mission defines its purpose within the context of higher education, the students it serves, and what it intends to accomplish. The institution’s stated goals are clearly linked to its mission and specify how the institution fulfills its mission.

  • We know ourselves to have an urban mission.  Is that communicated in the language of the mission statement?  Area of opportunity: review the wording
  • Our goals are connected with our actions – the four strategic plan goals encompass and guide most of what we do
  • Individual departments tie their missions and goals to the university.  This would be a good source of evidence.
