Michelle L. Rosen currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Literacy at New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ. She joined NJCU in 2013 after receiving her Doctorate in Education at Rutgers, the State University, in the area of Teacher Leadership. At Rutgers, Dr. Rosen studied the factors influencing teacher leaders who act as professional development providers in their schools. Her passion for this work comes from her fifteen years of experience in the professional development field. Dr. Rosen created the Rutgers Center for Literacy Development, a multifaceted professional development organization offering research-based workshops, seminars, and onsite coaching opportunities to over 300 schools.

Dr. Rosen also directed the professional development division for the Center for Effective School Practices, part of the Rutgers Graduate School of Education. This included a multi-year federal grant from the United States Department of Education’s Regional Laboratory-Mid Atlantic where she organized professional development opportunities with the New Jersey Department of Education in an effort to reach urban and rural school districts.

In addition to teaching literacy courses, Dr. Rosen coordinates the NJCU America Reads Program where she trains students who tutor in the Jersey City Public Schools.  She volunteers her time teaching literacy strategies to students at the A. Harry Moore School and also serves as the faculty advisor to the Student Affairs Committee.
