NJCU President Carlos Hernandez Is Chair of AASCU Board of Directors
Dr. Carlos Hernández, president of New Jersey City University, has assumed the post of chair of the Board of Directors of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). He became chair in November, having served for one year prior as chair-elect of the national association. Dr. Hernández will retain the leadership position for one year.
The national organization analyzes public policy regarding higher education and promotes academic quality, inclusion, and educational innovation.
A member of AASCU since 1992, Dr. Hernández has served on its Board of Directors since 2004.
Dr. Hernández also chairs the Board’s Council of State Representatives, which recommends the Association’s public policy agenda. He is a past participant in AASCU’s Forum on Urban Education, has been a member of its Hispanic Presidents Affinity Group, and has served on its Committee on International Education since 2002.
AASCU represents more than 430 public colleges, universities, and systems of public higher education throughout the United States and its territories. Member institutions enroll more than 3,000,000 students or 56 percent of all students enrolled at public four-year institutions.
