NJCU Swimming Courses for Adults to Meet on Saturdays

New Jersey City University will offer two fall sessions of Saturday swimming courses for adults through its Office of Continuing Education.

Swimming sessions will be held on Saturdays, September 19 through October 17 and Saturdays, October 31 through December 5.

All classes will be held 10:00 – 10:50 a.m. in the pool at NJCU’s John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center, Culver and West Side Avenues in Jersey City. Registration for each course is $79.00.

An introductory course for those who cannot swim or for those with limited ability, “Beginning Swimming for Adults Level I” will include the study and practice of such basic swimming skills as entry into the water, body and breath control, floating, leg and arm movements, and safety skills.

Designed for those who have completed “Beginning Swimming for Adults Level I” or can demonstrate the skills covered in the course, “Beginning Swimming for Adults Level II” will help students, who must be comfortable in deep water, develop confidence in their strokes and swim greater distances. The course will introduce the elementary backstroke as well as diving and additional safety rules.

“Beginning Swimming for Adults Level III” will enable students, who must have completed “Beginning Swimming for Adults Level II” or can demonstrate the skills covered in the course, to develop confidence in stroke readiness. The course will also cover the front crawl and back strokes, deep water skills, breathing, and diving.

To register for a course or for further information call NJCU’s Office of Continuing Education at (201)200-3089, e-mail it at conted@njcu.edu, or visit its Web site at http://www.njcu.edu/continuing_ed/.
