NJCU to Offer 'Certified Pharmacy Technician Program' on Monday and Wednesday Evenings
New Jersey City University will offer a “Certified Pharmacy Technician Program,” 6:00 –9:00 p.m., on Mondays and Wednesdays, October 26 through November 30, on the University campus at 2039 Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City. There will be no class session on Wednesday, November 25.
Offered by NJCU’s Office of Continuing Education, the 30-hour “Certified Pharmacy Technician Program” is designed to prepare students to both work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in either a hospital or retail setting and for the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination.
Certified pharmacy technicians are responsible for many of the technical and administrative duties related to drug dispensing that were previously performed only by licensed pharmacists. Pharmacy technicians help licensed pharmacists provide medication and other health care products to patients. Technicians usually perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication, such as counting tablets and labeling bottles. They also perform administrative duties, such as answering phones, stocking shelves, and operating cash registers.
Course topics will include medical terminology, prescription interpretation, basic calculations, and dosage forms.
A 23% increase in the number of retail prescriptions over the past five years has led to a greater demand for pharmacy technicians.
Course registration, which must be completed by October 19, is $600.00.
To register for the course or for further information call NJCU’s Office of Continuing Education at (201)200-3089, e-mail it at conted@njcu.edu, or visit its Web site at http://www.njcu.edu/continuing_ed/.
