NJCU to Offer Four Fashion Design Courses

New Jersey City University’s Office of Continuing Education will offer four courses in fashion design this fall. All courses will meet on the NJCU campus at 2039 Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City.

“Pattern Making and Sewing” will meet 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, September 22 through December 1; there will be no session on November 24. Students in this course will draft patterns for various projects using their own measurements, thereby eliminating any need to purchase commercial patterns. Students will then sew their projects. Registration is $265.00.

”Accessories” will meet 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. on Thursdays, September 24 through December 3. In this course, students will learn the skills necessary to sew such accessories as bags, umbrellas, and scarves, including coordinating the fabric with the particular accessory. Registration is $225.00.

“Alterations and Repairs” will meet 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays, September 26 through October 31. This course will cover the basic skills necessary to alter and/or repair garments, including sewing buttons and hems, replacing zippers, and adjusting fit. Students will also work on any of their own garments that require alterations and/or repair. Students may bring a sewing machine but it is not mandatory. Registration is $65.00

”Basic Sewing” will meet 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays, September 26 through December 5. This class provides the novice sewer with the skills necessary to create garments from patterns and covers all phases of the process, beginning with pattern-reading and fabric selection. Both machine- and hand-sewing are covered as are zipper insertion, button and snap closures, hemming, and finishing details. Registration is $125.00.
