Frankenstein by Audrey Fisch Published by Helm Information
Frankenstein by Dr. Audrey A. Fisch of Westfield, a professor of English at New Jersey City University, has been published by Helm Information as part of its “Icons of Modern Culture Series.”
Frankenstein, the fifth book in the Series, explores how Frankenstein, first introduced in the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, has morphed into many different forms over time, place, and genre.
The 320-page book analyzes the many post-Shelley Frankensteins as it traces the development of this enduring icon. The book also covers the complex history of Mary Shelley’s book, including its publishing history, dismissal by the literary establishment, and reclamation as a classic in high school and college classrooms.
Dr. Fisch is the author of American Slaves in Victorian England: Abolitionist Politics in Popular Literature and Culture, editor of The Cambridge Companion to the African American Slave Narrative, and the co-editor of The Other Mary Shelley: Beyond Frankenstein.
Articles by Dr. Fisch have been published in Pedagogy, The Cambridge Companion to Harriet Beecher Stowe, Reality’s Dark Light: The Sensational Wilkie Collins, Feminist Teacher, Victorian Literature and Culture, and The New York Times, and at Salon.com. Her work has also been published in NJCU’s Women on Campus and The Academic Forum.
A member of the NJCU faculty since 1998 and coordinator of its Secondary English Education Program since 2001, Dr. Fisch has also served as coordinator of the institution’s Women’s Studies Program.
Dr. Fisch holds both a Ph.D. and an M.A. in English from Rutgers University, and a B.A. in English and mathematics from Amherst College.
