NJCU Professor Gloria Boseman to Be Honored by New Jersey League for Nursing
Dr. Gloria Boseman of Orange, a professor of nursing at New Jersey City University, will receive a 2009 Nurse Recognition Award from the New Jersey League for Nursing, an affiliate of the National League for Nursing, at the organization’s fall gala on Friday, November 6 at The Pines Manor in Edison.
Dr. Boseman, a health professional who has delivered care to underserved and underrepre-sented urban communities for more than 25 years, was selected for the honor in recognition of her many contributions to quality health care and her outstanding commitment to the nursing profession.
Named one of the 100 “Most Influential Persons” impacting the health of New Jersey’s African-American community by the City News, Dr. Boseman is a visible advocate for inner city residents, spreading her message of accountability and excellence on the local, state, and national levels.
Among Dr. Boseman’s numerous honors and awards are ones from Howard University, the Young Women’s Christian Association of Essex and West Hudson, The National Council of Negro Women, New Jersey City University, and Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.
A member of numerous boards, including the Essex Valley Health Care-East Orange General Hospital Board of Trustees, Dr. Boseman is a frequent speaker for various local, state, and national organizations and is known for her ability to deliver complex material in a basic and informative manner.
Dr. Boseman, who joined the NJCU faculty in 1978, has also served the University as chair of the Department of Nursing and interim dean of professional studies and education.
Dr. Boseman holds a Ph.D. in nursing research from Rutgers, an M.S. from the University of Maryland, and a B.S.N. from Howard University. She has also completed postgraduate courses at Seton Hall University.
