NJCU Professor Receives Grants from Asian
American Arts Alliance and Andy Warhol Foundation
Dr. Tan Lin, an associate professor of English at New Jersey
City University, has been awarded grants from the Asian American Arts Alliance
and the Andy Warhol Foundation.
Dr. Lin received a $1,500 grant from the Asian American Arts Alliance as part
of the Urban Artist Initiative (UAI)/NYC consortium with the Association of Hispanic
Arts, Harlem Arts Alliance, and Queens Council on the Arts, and in partnership
with the Bronx Council on the Arts and New York Foundation for the Arts.
Dr. Lin will use the grant, one of 26 awarded to individual artists, to complete
work on an ambient, socially-networked novel that blurs the line between fiction
and non-fiction. In his book, Dr. Lin retells interesting news stories as though
they have happened to him and inserts flea market photographs to “prove” it.
The work explores feelings of displacement and the construction of identity and
kinship as experienced by first- and second-generation immigrants.
Dr. Lin received a $14,000 Creative Capital Grant for Arts Writing from the Andy
Warhol Foundation to complete a book about Andy Warhol. The book will examine
the written works of
Mr. Warhol.
A member of the NJCU faculty since 2002, Dr. Lin teaches creative writing at
the University.
