Juniors Patrick Jarkowsky and Bianco Soto Appointed to NJCU Board of Trustees
Patrick Jarkowsky of Belleville and Bianco Soto of Jersey City, both juniors at New Jersey City University, have been appointed to the New Jersey City University Board of Trustees.
Rafael Perez, Esq., chair of the NJCU Board of Trustees, administered the oath of office to the student trustees at the December 8, 2008 meeting of the Board.
Mr. Jarkowsky will serve a one-year term as a voting member of the Board; Ms. Soto will serve for one year as a non-voting member and the following year as a voting member of the Board.
A political science major and journalism and economics minor, Mr. Jarkowsky is an opinion editor and writer for NJCU’s award-winning student newspaper, Gothic Times. Last fall, Mr. Jarkowsky played the role of John McCain in the University’s “Great Debate,” a campus program that featured students as the United States presidential candidates of the Democratic, Green, Libertarian, and Republican Parties, and was a student panelist for the Political Science Department’s “Forum on the New Jersey Presidential Primaries.” Last year, Mr. Jarkowsky served as master of ceremonies at a campus program that featured Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) as a keynote speaker.
Off campus, Mr. Jarkowsky has worked as store manager and buyer for Tunes Compact Discs in Hoboken since 2001. As store manager and buyer, Mr. Jarkowsky’s responsibilities include ordering, scheduling, merchandising, customer service, and staffing.
Ms. Soto, who is double majoring in English and secondary education, maintains a 3.3 grade point average and has received NJCU Academic Achievement Awards for 2007-2008 and 2006-2007.
On campus, she serves as co-chair of the Student Advisory Committee and participates in the National Latina Health Network.
Ms. Soto works as a student assistant for NJCU’s The Learning Communities Program. As a student assistant, she serves as a student tutor, mentor, and advisor, and performs various office duties.
Off campus, Ms. Soto has worked as an administrative assistant for The Avanta Group Real Estate, LLC in Jersey City. Her responsibilities included designing post cards and flyers, researching tax records, and coordinating mass mailings.
