Program Description
PRESERVICE COMPONENT called “Introduction to Teaching” (50 hours)
- Introduction to Teaching course (30 hours)
- Topics include classroom management, lesson planning, diversity
- Literacy Strategies, Teaching Students with Special Needs, edTPA
SEMESTER ONE: (90 hours)
- Offered as a hybrid and/or face to face.
- May be taken for 3 graduate credits or non-credit. Candidates who choose to take the semester for credit or non-credit will do the same work as those who opt for the credit option.
- Focus on curriculum and methods, reading and the school curriculum, edTPA
- Candidates will work with a Video Analysis Tool to prepare for certification.
- Candidates may apply for a Teach Grant to cover costs of tuition.
SEMESTER TWO: (90 hours)
- Offered as a hybrid and/or face to face.
- May be taken for 6 graduate credits or non-credit. Candidates who choose to take the semester for credit or non-credit will do the same work as those who opt for the credit option.
- Focus on assessment, learning, motivation, and edTPA simulations, planning lessons, instruction, and reflection.
- Candidates may apply for a Teach Grant to cover costs of tuition.
SEMESTER THREE: (90 hours)
- Offered as a hybrid and/or face to face.
- May be taken for 6 graduate credits or non-credit. Candidates who choose to take the semester for credit or non-credit will do the same work as those who opt for the credit option.
- Focus on integrating curriculum with diverse learners, culturally responsive teaching, planning lessons, instruction, and reflection.
- edTPA – Students submit their portfolio for edTPA
SEMESTER FOUR: COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE (80 hours)
- Offered as a hybrid.
- Candidates will study best practices, create, present, and critique a webinar, Capstone Assignment, and professional development
After the Candidate completes the 400 hour instructional program while successfully teaching for two years, he/she will be issued a Standard Certificate.
