About Early Childhood Project Success

In August 2001, the Commission on Higher Education, awarded more than $10 million in grants to improve the state college’s teacher training programs. All 21 colleges will split $7 million to improve their education departments. The remaining $3 million was presented in a teacher effectiveness competition in which college’s needed to invent new, innovative programs to train teachers.


New Jersey City University’s and their Early Childhood Project Success was one of five schools chosen from 17 applicants. Montclair University, Rutgers University (New Brunswick), Rutgers University (Camden) and The College of New Jersey were among the schools awarded.


Early Childhood Project Success Project is a collaboration with Hudson County Community College, Jersey City Public Schools and New Jersey City University to address the demand for highly effective preschool teachers in the urban school district. The Project will provide professional resources for Jersey City Public Schools, align teacher preparation curricula from both NJCU and HCCC with state and national standards.
