Early Childhood Project Success

NJCU P-3 Certificate Undergraduate Transfer; STEP BY STEP


From the NJ Community Colleges;

1. Complete your Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree.
2. Apply to NJCU as an undergraduate student
3. Upon admission to NJCU, declare a major in one of the Liberal Arts or Sciences.
4. Request entrance into the Early Childhood Education concentration and certificate program.
5. Enter NJCU with Junior status.
6. Successfully complete required academic major courses
7. Successfully complete required p-3 professional education courses, including traditional student teaching. Abbott Teachers/Specialized Alternate Route; complete on the job student teaching
8. Graduate with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.75
9. Apply to the state for a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) Abbott Teachers/Specialized Alternate Route; apply for Certificate of Eligibility (CE)
10. Secure a teaching position with preschool through third grade children. Abbott Teachers/Specialized Alternate Route maintain employment in Abbott preschool classroom
11. Register in the provisional teaching program, through your employing district
12. Complete one year of provisional teaching in same district, under district assigned mentor. Abbott Teachers/Specialized Alternate Route complete an additional four weeks of intensive mentoring
13. District recommendation for standard certificate filed with the state
14. Standard P-3 certificate issued.

From institutions of Higher Education, without A.A. or A.S.;

1. Apply to NJCU as an undergraduate student
2. Arrange to have all official transcripts sent to NJCU admissions, including all foreign transcripts and U.S. evaluations of foreign transcripts
3. Upon admission to NJCU, and with your transcript evaluation, meet with an advisor in your chosen liberal arts/science major to select major courses
4. With your transcript evaluation, meet with Early Childhood advisor, to plan sequence of early childhood certification courses
5. Successfully complete required academic major courses
6. Successfully complete required p-3 professional education courses, including traditional student teaching. Abbott Teachers/Specialized Alternate Route; complete on the job student teaching
7. Graduate with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.75
