Special Interest Housing

  • Theme Housing Program  

    The Theme Housing program offers structured Living Learning Communities to enhance the academic and social environment for students in the residence halls. 

    • To help facilitate a smoother academic and social transition to college
    • To create strong academic skills to aid in academic success
    • To aid in retention at the institution
    • To create opportunities  of learning about others differently from themselves


    • Easier room placement options with the changes on the housing application
    • Each theme first identifies students with similar interest or pursuit.
    • Each theme aim to build upon the current processes in place … i.e. RAs will tailor their events (SEC programs) to address the needs of their residents. (At least one RA event must be tailored to the needs of the residents’ their floor). Academic workshops, plan service events, get experts/ faculty to speak to residents, built school spirit, and encourage good camaraderie.

     Day of Service – Community Service Programs 
    • All residents must commit to completing at least one hour of community service with Residence Life per semester. Documentation required! 
    • All Residence Life Service initiatives are opened to all residents. …Sanction based and civility community service participants are also made available. 
    • A non-residence Life project may be submitted for consideration with proper documentation.
