About Us

Print
  • The Writing Center has a tutorial staff committed to helping student writers of all writing abilities navigate their writing challenges. Some of us are peer tutors, undergraduates who have taken or are currently taking a 400-level tutoring course that covers a range of subject matter pertaining to writing tutoring. Some of us are professional tutors who have an advanced degree and longtime college-level teaching experience.

    What we offer

    One-on-one Tutoring Sessions
We offer one-on-one tutoring sessions for all NJCU students. Sessions can be reserved on our online schedule up to three times a week, but no more than one session per day. Sessions last for about 45 minutes. Students may seek drop-in tutoring sessions; however, we always encourage students to make reserved tutoring appointments because drop-in sessions are offered on a first come, first served basis and only if a tutor happens to be available.

    Writing Workshops
We offer workshops on a variety of writing topics including:

    • The Four Biggest Grammar Mistakes
    • Taking a Timed Writing Exam
    • How to Write a Research Paper
    • Introductions and Conclusions
    • Resumes and Cover Letters
    • Summary vs. Analysis
    • APA
    • MLA

    Conversation Groups
We offer weekly conversation groups throughout the academic year. Anyone can join. While the discussion remains informal, participants are encouraged to be mindful of effective conversation practices that involve listening and genuine engagement with the other participants in the group. Topics of conversation reflect the group members’ specific interests.
