Searching Academic Search Premier

This help sheet provides information on how to do a basic search and does not include many
features found on the search screen.

Log into Academic Search Premier

  1. From the library home page, click the database list By Title.
  2. Click on Academic Search Premier.
  3. At login prompt, enter your NJCU ID number (Your Gothic Card Number).

Create a Search

  • On the Search Screen, enter your keyword(s) in the search box(es).
  • To narrow your search, use the Boolean operator AND to combine more keyword(s).

Limit search:

  • You may limit your search with limiters – such as Full Text or Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals.

Browse results:

  • Each result includes a brief citation: title, author(s), source (name of magazine, journal or
    newspaper), and publication date .
  • The HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text link takes you directly to the full text of the article.

View abstract & citation:

  • You can view the abstract (summary of article) by placing your mouse over the Preview icon.
  • You can view the full citation by clicking on the title or Full Citation.

Narrow search results:

  • You can narrow your search results by :
    • Source Type, such as academic journals, magazines, or newspapers
    • Subject or Subject Thesaurus Terms.
    • Full Text or Publication Date.

Print, Email, Save your research results

  • Click the Print, E-mail, or Save icon and follow the directions on screen to get a copy of the
    result.

Cite the source

  • Click on the Citation icon to view your results in citation formats such as MLA and APA.
