Institute for Dispute Resolution

The New Jersey City University Institute for Dispute Resolution under the platform of the University Business School aims to promote international negotiation and mediation techniques to manage disputes in cross border commercial, investor-state and general conflict resolution forums. The Institute applies these principals through applied research in the fields of negotiation and mediation studies. The Institutes mission: “to promote trade and commerce applying international mediation from a business school prospective and promote New Jersey as a place to conduct cross border disputes”.

The key objectives to implement this mission:

  • Program Initiatives include CLE & Symposiums to promote international cross border negotiations and mediation in the State of New Jersey. 
  • Cohort Programs with others International Business Schools to promote global trade and commerce applying negotiations and mediation modalities to manage dispute risks. 
  • Creation of the International Dispute Resolution Center of New Jersey to handle cross border cases. 
  • Promote legislative based initiatives to promote New Jersey as a seat for international dispute resolution. 
  • Foster relationships with stakeholders in government, NGOs and international organizations to promote Center goals in applied research and fieldwork studies. 

Applied Research in field of mediation. This includes:  

  • Seminars and Programs geared toward mediation from a transnational order 
  • Exchange programs with other international Universities globally including establishment of sister centers 
  • Field work in mediation with NGOs 
  • Publications 
  • A Degree based initiative in the field of study of ADR focused on cross border disputes under the Business School. 
  • Legislative Policy Initiatives originated through the center or as a co-participant with other stakeholders to promote dispute solution based practice.
