Undergraduate Dual Programs

Completion of this major prepares a student for a career as an auditor in either public accounting, government accounting, or internal auditing. The student may also pursue the fields of tax consulting and preparation, management accounting, budget analysis, forensic accounting, or financial analysis. Continued study may include a master’s and/or doctoral degree in taxation, forensic accounting, compliance, business, or law.

A Bachelor of Science in Accounting provides a detailed understanding of how accounting systems are structured and implemented, as well as a valuable foundation in how businesses function. Students completing this major are prepared for a career in public agencies or private firms as an auditor, tax preparer, budget analyst or corporate manager.

The accounting degree provides the required background for students planning to pursue an M.B.A or other graduate program. Undergraduates may also take the five year combined Bachelor of Science to Master of Science in Accounting Program. The accounting curriculum also prepares students to sit for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) examination. In New Jersey, students need 150 semester hours of college credits. The undergraduate accounting program combined with the Master of Science in Accounting is designed to meet this requirement. In addition the degree is an excellent base for students planning on pursuing an M.B.A. or an M.S. in accounting.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The program will consist of 11 interdisciplinary courses known as the common core for all business disciplines (33 credits), seven specialization courses (21 credits), and up to two elective courses (6 credits). The MCCC A.S. in Business Administration is designed for those students who desire to transfer to a baccalaureate program in business.
