For Teacher Candidates Impacted by COVID-19

The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) and the Deans and Directors of Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) are working in partnership to address concerns caused by COVID-19 school closures while ensuring that every student, school, and district will have access to well-trained educators. One of our highest priorities as a Department is to be supportive and responsive to the field as we navigate this unprecedented and unpredictable situation. We are in regular communication with EPPs and intend to provide clear guidance to address concerns of impacted teacher candidates.

To better address concerns and develop a path forward, the NJDOE has surveyed all educator preparation programs to determine the impact of COVID-19 on educator preparation program certification candidates. Weekly meetings between the NJDOE and New Jersey Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (NJACTE) are being held to develop solutions and regularly communicate updates. Both the NJDOE and NJACTE seek to best serve and support teacher candidates, ensuring that future educators successfully complete programs and earn certification.
