About Jazz Program Scholarships

NJCU is committed to a debt-free education for all and has one of the lowest debt-to-student rates in the United States. A variety of scholarships are available to all incoming jazz students at both undergraduate and graduate level.

Graduate Students

Please inquire about scholarships and assistantships prior to your audition. While no separate application is necessary, it is very important for you to discuss your goals with us. 

Undergraduate Students

Substantial full tuition scholarships and assistantships are available in Jazz Studies. Special consideration will be given to working professionals who are already established in the field of jazz. Women, minorities and international students are encouraged to apply.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Ella Fitzgerald Charitable Foundation scholarship - A full tuition merit-based scholarship awarded on the basis of musical potential.  While no separate application is necessary, it is very important for you to discuss your interest and qualifications for this scholarship. 

NJCU First-year student Scholarships

Presidential Scholarship – up to $44,000 for four years (covers full-time in-state tuition and fees) Awarded to incoming freshmen who normally have at least a 3.00 GPA and a 1270* of higher SAT Critical Reading/Math or 26 or higher ACT composite score. *1200 or higher SAT Critical Reading/Math for test scores prior to March 2016.

Top of the Class Scholarship – up to $32,000 over four years ($8,000 annually)
Awarded normally to first year students who are academically in the top 10% of their high school graduating class. Selection criteria are based on GPA, rank, and test scores.

Green and Gold Scholarship – up to $24,000 over four years ($6,000 annually)
Awarded to incoming freshmen who normally have at least a 3.00 GPA and an 1170* or higher SAT Critical Reading/Math or 24 or higher ACT composite score. * 1100 or higher SAT Critical Reading/Math for test scores prior to March 2016

Gothic Knight Scholarship – up to $16,000 over four years ($4,000 annually)
Awarded to incoming freshmen who normally have at least a 3.00 GPA and a 1080* or higher SAT Critical Reading/Math or 21 or higher ACT composite score. *1000 or higher SAT Critical Reading/Math for test scores prior to March 2016

NJCU Transfer Scholarships

Presidential Scholarship
Covers full-time in-state tuition and fees over two years ($11,000 annually), normally awarded to incoming full-time transfer students who have earned an Associate’s degree with a minimum 3.70 GPA or better.

Green and Gold Scholarship
Covers up to $8,000 over two years ($4,000 annually), normally awarded to incoming full-time transfer students who have earned an Associate’s degree with a minimum 3.50 GPA or better.

Gothic Knight Scholarship
Covers up to $6,000 over two years ($3,000 annually), normally awarded to incoming full-time transfer students who have earned an Associate’s degree with a minimum 3.25 GPA or better.

Golden Gothic Scholarship
Covers up to $4,000 over two years ($2,000 annually), normally awarded to incoming full-time transfer students with 30 credits or more and a minimum 3.50 GPA or better.
