Leaders of the Free World Trip to Ghana

About the Ghana Program

NJCU has partnered with Leaders of the Free World  to offer a two week intensive program in Ghana. This is an opportunity for young men to be groomed for leadership in their communities, university and wider society. It aims to provide an opportunity for young men to (re) connect with Africa as a means of teaching positive notions of history, balanced understanding of self and the power of ideas to shape their futures. The program aims to build character and goal -setting motivation through leadership training via workshops at our partner institutions and in key historical locations in Ghana.

Travel dates: late July 2020.

Cost: $1500.

Cost includes: Roundtrip airfare, program fees, meals, travel insurance, immunizations, and visa fee.

Not included: Students should have about $200 available for miscellaneous expenses.


  • You must be a matriculated NJCU student
  • You must be a black male between the ages of 18-27
  • You must have earned 24 credits by January 2020 with a 2.5 GPA
  • You must have taken, or take in SP20, AFRO 101 or AFRO 164 and receive a B grade
  • You must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • You must have a passport valid until AT LEAST until March 2021
  • You must agree to receive all immunizations and prophylaxes required by NJCU in accordance with CDC recommendations for travel to Ghana. Visit this link for the full list .


Complete the online data form no later than November 1, 2019.

Submit a copy of your passport ID page with the data form or separately to goabroad@njcu.edu

A $1500 charge will be applied to your Spring 2020 bill. Credit card payments must be made online through your Gothic Net account. Cash or check payments can be made at the Office of Student Accounts (Bursar's Office).
