Friday, June 5
10 a.m.-12 p.m.
We know this is a bittersweet time for all of you who had expected to participate in commencement exercises - and all the pomp and fun activities that go with them - in May. But we do not want to let this time pass without celebrating YOU and YOUR accomplishments! Even though NJCU won't be hosting a traditional on-campus graduation in May, let everyone see your excitement and joy.
You've earned it!
We've created a website where you can leave messages to your fellow graduates. Share photos, video or just a message with your favorite graduating NJCU Knight!
Want to leave a message to your family for their support throughout your time at NJCU? Leave a message on this thank you board for everyone to see!
Head over to our shout-out board to share photos or a congratulatory message with your favorite NJCU Grad!
All NJCU students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends can access our Virtual Celebration site starting now! Here you can offer shout outs, thanks and access our social media.
You can come and go as you please, you do not need to be on the site immediately at 10am nor do you need to stay on until 12pm.
On June 5, once the virtual celebration site is accessible, students will be able to chat live about the videos or send words of encouragement to each other via social media from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The celebration will include a series of pre-taped videos congratulating the students. Each student who submitted slide information will be featured with a name card and a photo indicating their degree.
You will not be able to participate in the live chat if you do not attend from 10-12.
Unfortunately, we work with an outside vendor for this event and have to adhere to strict deadlines. You are unable to create a personalized slide at this point. Marching Order will create a basic graduate slide with the available information that we have submitted to them (Name, Degree, Major, Honors).
Yes! We've created a website where you can leave messages to your fellow graduates. Share photos, video or just a message with your favorite graduating NJCU Knight! You can also leave a message on this thank you board for everyone to see!
Plus, we've created special-edition frames and GIFs for Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram celebrating your new grad status!
Friends and family members can head over to our shout-out board to share photos or a congratulatory message with their favorite NJCU Grad!

Celebration versus Ceremony:
The virtual celebration site will go live on June 5, and students can access the site as many times as they want after that. The celebration will include a series of pre-taped videos congratulating the students. Each student will be featured with a name card and a photo indicating their degree.
On June 5, once the virtual celebration site is accessible, students will be able to chat live about the videos or send words of encouragement to each other via social media from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
We are still planning to hold an in-person ceremony once it is safe, and we are permitted to do so. We will send information out for this, but currently, we do not know when this will be.
If I don't want to participate in any of the ceremonies, do I need to apply to graduate?
Yes. You must apply to graduate regardless of ceremony participation. For information on how to apply for graduation, visit the Graduation Clearance page.
Is there a rescheduled ceremony?
NJCU will be holding an in-person ceremony. The date has not been set yet and all eligible graduates will be emailed once we know more. Currently we need to wait until it is safe and we are able to come together as a group.
Do I need to register to participate in the graduation celebration? How do I register?
Yes. Students will receive information and a registration link via email on June 2nd.
What if I can't participate in the rescheduled ceremony?
Students who are unable to attend the rescheduled commencement ceremonies will be able to join the celebration virtually, with added online engagement opportunities - allowing you to experience the ceremony and share it with your family and friends. The link to the virtual celebration page will be provided to students on the NJCU homepage before the event.
Do I need to participate in a ceremony to graduate?
No. All students who meet their academic requirements, regardless of whether they will attend the in-person ceremony, will receive their diplomas in the mail this summer.
Will the commencement ceremony be recorded and available to view?
Yes. The celebration will be recorded and can be viewed any time until February 2021. All additional celebration elements will be available on the virtual celebration page.
Graduates can enter "New Jersey City University" and not all but many of the styles we offer for NJCU are on this site.
Graduates who have any questions about the rings or who want to place an order with me over the phone or who need personal assistance can email: email@example.com
Herff Jones offers interest free payment plans and rings are customized with graduate's degree and graduation date. Name or initials are engraved on the inside of the ring. Manufacturing and Delivery is 6-9 weeks.
RING RAFFLE: Herff Jones will donate one free Ultrium ring to the winner of the NJCU raffle. This student will be chosen at random the week of the virtual celebration.
Graduates can enter "New Jersey City University" and all frame options/styles will appear. All orders will have free shipping from now through the end of May and the frame will be shipped to the student’s home.
FREE SHIPPING CODE: SHP20
FRAME RAFFLE: Herff Jones will donate one free frame to the winner of the NJCU raffle. This student will be chosen at random the week of the virtual celebration.
All degrees will be conferred, and you do not need to worry that you have not graduated from NJCU. We will be sending out information regarding diplomas, a senior gift, and items that will be sent home for you. Typically diplomas will be ready by about the first week in July, and the Registrar’s Office will send you information about this.
Caps and Gowns:
During our actual commencement exercises, NJCU will provide the caps and gowns for undergraduate students. Graduate students and doctoral candidates will have the ability to rent or buy their robes. We will be distributing caps, gowns, tassels, etc. when we can come together and walk as a class when we hold our actual ceremony.
As this is not our commencement ceremony, we will not be distributing caps and gowns, but you will have the opportunity to purchase one on the Commencement website if you would like to have something as a keepsake ahead of time. Please contact our Herff Jones representative directly if this is something you would like to do:
NJCU Graduates can log on to the link provided.
Select "Cap & Gown" then select "Virtual Ceremony" then select your degree "Bachelors or Masters"
Note: Cap & Gown shipments will arrive 4-5 weeks from date of order. These items are only for pictures and for keepsakes.
Marching Order Slides:
You can record your name and put a picture on the slide through our Marching Order site. You can also put a quote, note, or other comments on the slide. You DO NOT NEED a senior portrait to do this, and you can put any picture you would like on this site.
Please note the two dates you MUST meet:
May 13: Final day to be able to record your name for your slide
May 23: Final day to upload pictures
Unfortunately, as we are working with an external vendor, we are not able to extend these deadlines.
Many of you have not been able to take a senior portrait due to the cancellation of events on campus. We are working with the vendor to explore options for how we can assist you with this. Unfortunately, until we can begin meeting in groups, we will not know exact details, but we will make sure you still have this option as we begin to open this summer.
Events and celebrations: The Student Government and Senior Class Council are working hard to begin having virtual celebrations and events for all graduating students. They will be hosting online leadership awards, social gatherings, and raffles for all of our students. Please be sure to check your NJCU email daily for information about these events.
