SUMMER 2018 MUSIC CAMPS for KIDS

JUNIOR MUSIC CAMP
JULY 16 - 20 (GRADES 3-6) 

For younger students interested in music, NJCU offers a one-week summer session with sing-alongs, crafts, art, music games, and engaging activities. With the goal of exploring music, the emphasis is on building friendships and creating music together. Classes are led by Dr. Amparo Fabra (Certified K-12 New Jersey Music Teacher) along with NJCU Summer Camp staff. Each day, campers must bring their lunch and any materials distributed during the week. Students will present a final performance at the end of the session (free and open to the public).

Dates: Monday, July 16 - Friday, July 20
Duration: 10am - 4pm daily, with a performance at 7pm on July 20
*Before and after care available 
Open to: Students entering grades 3-6
Fee: $350 / $300 before May 1

SUMMER FESTIVAL BAND
JULY 23 - 27 (GRADES 8-12)

During this one-week intensive day camp, students will participate in two full band rehearsals and a sectional rehearsal daily, and take theory, history, and music appreciation classes. The NJCU Summer Band is led by Dr. Joseph d'Auguste and Dr. Amparo Fabra; sectional rehearsals and classes will be taught by NJCU summer faculty members. Guest artists will give special performances throughout the week, and students will join in music games, team-building exercises, and a Boomwhacker ensemble. On the last day, students will perform at a local senior residence in the afternoon, and give a final concert (free and open to the public) in the evening. Each day, campers must bring their instruments, lunch, and any materials distributed during the week.
Instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, euphonium, percussion.

DIRECTORS
Joseph d'Auguste, DMA - Artistic Director 
Joseph d'Auguste has "consistently stood out" (New York Times) for displaying his "great virtuosity" (Columbia Spectator) in his roles as a performer, teacher, clinician, and artistic director. Constantly in demand throughout the tri-state area, the "richly equipped clarinetist" (Staten Island Advance) maintains a busy schedule due to his great versatility. d'Auguste currently serves as the Coordinator of Woodwind Studies at New Jersey City University. He directs the NJCU Clarinet Choir and is the Co-Founder of the NJCU Honors Wind Ensemble. 

Amparo Fabra, PhD - Program Director 
Amparo Fabra Crespo is a certified K-12 New Jersey Music Teacher and a composer who specializes in contemporary and experimental music. She received degrees in Piano, Musicology, and Composition from the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Valencia, Spain. She also holds a Master in Music Composition from The Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, New York, and a Ph.D. in Music Composition from The Graduate Center, The City University of New York. Currently, Amparo is an Assistant Professor at the Caroline L. Guarini Department of Music, Dance and Theatre at New Jersey City University.
