Making an appointment

Day or evening appointments may be made by coming to the Counseling Center or by calling (201) 200-3165 during office hours. When you request an appointment, you will be asked for your name, your Gothic ID number, your contact information, and the times you are available from Monday to Friday. You will also be asked some brief screening questions.

We will make every effort to schedule you for an appointment as soon as possible. Appointments are usually scheduled on the hour, and are 45 minutes long. Prior to seeing your counselor for your initial appointment you will need to complete a series of intake forms at our office, which will take approximately 30 minutes.

If the Center is closed and you are experiencing a mental health emergency on campus, contact Public Safety at 201-200-3128. For mental health emergency assistance off campus, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

WAIT LIST INFORMATION

At times, due to very high demand for our services, the Counseling Center maintains a wait list of students requesting ongoing counseling. When this is the case, students who call for an initial appointment will be offered the following options:

  1. To add their names to our wait list for ongoing services.
  2. To make an appointment for a one-time consultation while remaining on the wait list for ongoing services.
  3. To obtain referral information from us regarding local community mental health agencies and local private practitioners who may be able to provide ongoing services sooner than we can.
  4. To remain on our wait list while seeking counseling elsewhere until an appointment becomes available at our office.

Please be assured that we are doing our very best to continue providing students with quality services as quickly as our schedules allow. Thank you for your patience.

CANCELLATIONS

If you are unable to attend a scheduled appointment, please call the Center as soon as possible to let us know of the cancellation.  If staff are unavailable to answer your call, you may leave a voicemail message to inform us of the cancellation). Please note that, due to the high demand for our services, if you miss or cancel two appointments in a row, you will not be eligible for services until the following semester.

If your counselor needs to reschedule, we will make every effort to contact you as soon as possible. Please be sure to provide us with a current contact number and e-mail address so we can reach you under these circumstances.
