New Jersey City University COVID-19 Response Protocol for Presumptive Positive Cases

The following process will be initiated for any resident or commuter student as well as faculty and staff at NJCU.

Step 1 - Notifications

  • Call the Office of the Dean of Students: 201-200-3525 or after hours call Public Safety: 201-200-3128
  • Both will call NJCU Contact Tracer & Environmental Health & Safety Department (EHS)
  • EHS contacts University Crisis Leadership Team Notify instructor(s) of absence Remain isolated and await test results.

Step 2 - Contact Tracing

  • Initiated by NJCU Contact Tracer, Jersey City Health Department  (JCHD), and/or Local Health Department* (LHD)
  • “Close Contacts” of case will be identified “Close Contacts” will be required to isolate at home, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, and must monitor their health for 14 days from the last exposure to a COVID-19 presumptive or positive case NJCU
  • Contact Tracer/JCHD/LHD will follow-up with positive cases and “Close Contacts” for the next 14 days

  • Both will contact NJCU Contact Tracers and Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS)
  • EHS will contact the Facilities Department for cleaning & University Crisis Leadership Team

Step 2 - Contact Tracing

  • Initiated by NJCU Contact Tracer, Jersey City Health Department (JCHD), and/or Local Health Department* (LHD)
  • “Close Contacts” of case will be identified “Close Contacts” will be required to isolate at home, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, and must monitor their health for 14 days from the last exposure to a COVID-19 presumptive or positive case NJCU
  • Contact Tracer/JCHD/LHD will follow-up with positive cases and “Close Contacts” for the next 14 days

Step 1 - Notifications Faculty/Staff

  • Employee will immediately notify Manager Manager will assist with transportation if necessary Manager will notify Human Resources (HR)
  • HR will contact NJCU Contact Tracers & Environmental Health & Safety Department (EHS)
  • EHS will contact the Facilities Department for cleaning & University Crisis Leadership Team

Step 2 - Contact Tracing

  • Initiated by NJCU Contact Tracer, Jersey City Health Department (JCHD), and/or Local Health Department* (LHD)
  • “Close Contacts” of case will be identified “Close Contacts” will be required to isolate at home , whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, and must monitor their health for 14 days from the last exposure to a COVID-19 presumptive or positive case NJCU
  • Contact Tracer/JCHD/LHD will follow-up with positive cases and “Close Contacts” for the next 14 days

Step 1 - Contact

  • Employees experiencing symptoms should self-isolate, contact their health care provider and inform their Manager immediately.

Step 2 - Notifications

  • Manger will notify Human Resources (HR)
  • HR will contact NJCU Contact Tracers & Environmental Health & Safety Department (EHS)
  • EHS will contact the Facilities Department for cleaning & University Crisis Leadership Team

Step 3 - Contact Tracing

  • Initiated by NJCU Contact Tracer and/or Local Health Department* (LHD)
  • “Close Contacts” of case will be identified “Close Contacts” will be required to isolate at home , whether symptomatic or asymptomatic, and must monitor their health for 14 days from the last exposure to a COVID-19 presumptive or positive case
  • NJCU Contact Tracer/LHD will follow-up with positive cases and “Close Contacts” for the next 14 days

Definitions:

Positive Case: Tested positive for COVID-19 
Presumptive Positive: Presumed positive through active or passive monitoring Active Monitoring: Temperature screening for fever  
Passive Monitoring: Daily surveys and/or self-assessments 


The decision to close part or all of the school is determined by the JCHD in conjunction with New Jersey Department of Health using guidance and criteria set by CDC, WHO and State of New Jersey.

*Local Health Department: Jurisdiction where student/ faculty/ staff resides.
