NJCU utilizes a targeted testing approach called Surveillance Testing for specified groups of employees and students working and learning on campus — to find and isolate COVID-19 cases to protect our students and our NJCU community.
What is Surveillance Testing?
NJCU utilizes a targeted testing approach based on the risk of transmission of COVID-19 within the university community to identify those who may have COVID but are asymptomatic. This method is known as surveillance testing.
This approach will help detect asymptomatic occurrences of infection and prevent further transmission by enabling contact tracing. It will also provide additional guidance about self-isolation and health precautions. Our testing strategy's risk-assessment focus means that testing will not be required or recommended for all employees or students. The university COVID Response Team will determine which groups of students or employees should be recommended and/or required to complete testing through the NJCU COVID-19 testing program.
Testing is mandatory for all student-athletes and students who live in the residence halls.
You must sign up before 9:00 am on the day of the test in order to be seen.
Through NJCU’s partnership with Diligent Urgent Care, the university provides rapid, nasal swab testing on campus several times per week. All members of the NJCU community are welcome to be tested through the surveillance testing process if they are not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms:
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Muscle or body aches
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
Those who are experiencing symptoms should self-isolate and contact their health care provider.
Additional testing may be recommended based on surveillance data, case identification, and contact tracing follow-up and strategy as the situation evolves on campus.
Testing is available once per week per person.
With the new on-campus surveillance testing in partnership with Clinical Staffing Solutions, along with daily health monitoring, contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine procedures, NJCU has exceeded state and local guidelines with proactive measures to keep our community at large safe and health.
