About Telemed Services at NJCU

NJCU is proud to partner with Diligent Urgent Care to provide medical care for our students. Through this partnership, NJCU students can access a variety of services through the NJCU Health Center, the Diligent Urgent Care Center located in Union City, or through the privacy of their own home using the Telemed App. Additionally, through this partnership, a student will be able to:

  • Meet with a medical provider through the telemed platform either through the Student Health Center or through the privacy of their room/home.
  • Receive COVID testing and results within minutes.
  • Utilize the Diligent Urgent Care Center for evening and weekend medical issues

What is telemedicine?

In this age of Covid-19, telemedicine has become the new norm. You can expect to be evaluated by a medical clinician remotely through telecommunications technology using a video conferencing platform at your appointment. You will be discussing your medical history and your COVID history, which will be used to determine whether you need to be tested. This telemedicine appointment takes less than 20 minutes.

How to schedule a telemed appointment

Schedule an Appointment Here

What to do when you schedule an appointment

  • Step 1: Determine if you are a new or an existing patient (check new patient, verify that you are not a robot)

Then you must agree to the terms and conditions (check to agree), and you are brought to the scheduler page.

  • Step 2: Why do you need to be seen: choose NJCU students from the dropdown menu
  • Step 3: schedule telemedicine appointment with provider: choose day and time convenient for you
  • Step 4: Confirm appointment
  • Step 5: Enter your personal information - name, address, phone, etc. You will need to add your insurance information here.
  • If you do not have medical insurance, choose "NONE" from the dropdown menu.
  • Effective Tuesday, 3/22, any uninsured individual will be charged $30 for COVID testing (no telemedicine)
  • Any uninsured individual will be charged $75 for non-COVID-related visits or any visit that requires a telemedicine encounter.

Why do I need to give my insurance information?

  • Non-COVID Related Issues:  A telemed appointment is still considered a medical appointment with the Urgent Care team. You will be charged for the appointment, just like an in-person appointment based on your health insurance coverage.
  • Any uninsured individual will be charged $75 for non-COVID-related visits or any visit that requires a telemedicine encounter.
  • A lab fee of $25 will be mailed to students.

What if I don't have insurance?

  • Non-COVID Related Issues:  NJCU students who do not have health insurance for medical situations that are non-COVID related will be charged $75 for their telemed appointment. You will not receive other charges out of pocket unless additional testing must be provided. The Diligent Urgent Care team will discuss any testing that may be recommended.
  • COVID Related Issues:  Effective Tuesday, 3/22, any uninsured individual will be charged $30 for COVID testing (no telemedicine)

What happens during the telemedicine visit?

Your telemedicine visit will last less than 20 minutes. First, you will be asked about your medical history, Covid-19 history, and other pertinent information like a routine physical. This is how the clinician will determine if a Covid-19 test is required.

Is my medical information kept confidential?

Diligent Urgent Care is HIPAA compliant, and the privacy of your health information is protected and secure.

NJCU COVID Testing

All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to test through the Student Health Center or any other DIlligent Urgent Care location.

  • Patients will need to schedule their testing appointments directly through our patient portal (please see app information below or visit HERE).
  • The telemedicine portion of the visit can be done anytime on the same day before their scheduled testing time from the comfort of the patient's home.
  • A virtual front desk receptionist will collect insurance information.
  • Upon arrival at the testing center, the Medical Assistant will verify that a telemed appointment was completed, and the patient will be able to get tested. No more waiting for the providers to answer calls!
  • If an appointment is not made, the MA will help the patient download the app.
  • Results will now be available immediately through the app, so patients will not need to wait for paper results.
