SERVICES
The Periodicals Room is the area in the Library where you magazines and journals are found.  It also services federal government documents as a depository library.*  Services include:

  • Locating specific issues of journals or magazines
  • Help in using microform and microfilm readers
  • Help in using federal government documents and sources of specific federal information
COLLECTION
The Library subscribes to more than 1,200 periodical titles.  Current magazines, journals and newspapers are received daily and back files of most of our periodicals are available on microfilm, bound volumes or loose issues.

At present, please note that periodicals titles are listed in OSCAR, but specific holdings still need to be verified with Periodicals staff.

The key to the subject content of periodicals is a vast array of current and retrospective indexes and abstracts located in the Reference Room, some of which are also available on CD format.  Consult these for exact citations before going to Periodicals.

For reasons of space and assured accessibility to the user, the Periodicals Room is constantly expanding its microfilm holdings.  Multiple microfilm reader-printers are conveniently located near the microfilm cabinets.  Please read and follow the simple directions for the proper use of the machines.

In addition to periodicals, the Department houses and services several other important research tools, among them:

       American Statistical Index, 1974 -
       ASI Microfiche Library
      ERIC Microfiche, 1966 -

U.S. GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS
Library, Second Floor
201-200-3137

The US Government is one of the most prolific publishers in the world and the Congressman Frank J. Guarini  Library has been designated  since 1963 as a selective depository for these publications. The Library chooses from various categories of Federal Documents those that support and supplement the University’s curriculum, e.g. the Census reports.

The major access point to this vast wealth of information is the Monthly Catalog of Government Publications, now available on CD for easier searching.

Subject bibliographies issued by the Government Printing Office are also available.  There are over two hundred such bibliographies that list currently available documents.

Government publications are authoritative, up-to-date and, for some disciplines, absolutely essential sources of information.

We urge everybody to become familiar with these useful publications!
